Overview
The facility is leased by Freshmax – global processor and exporter of fresh produce, and a management partner in several MyFarm investment syndicates. Freshmax has plans to double its apple production during the next 5-10 years. More broadly the region continues to see growth in bareland development of apple orchards and other food & beverage products that require chilling facilities. In the apple orchard space higher density plantings, improved/new husbandry practices and bareland development is likely to see volumes grow by 6-7% per annum alone. The current site is 3.62 hectares in size and contains 12 coolstores with a total footprint of 7,000 square metres. Of this, 8 coolstores are considered ‘modern’ with a total footprint of 4,900 square metres and flexible format. The remaining coolstore area is of a more traditional style and there are some other sundry storage and office buildings.Te Mata Coolstore is well located close to major transportation routes in the heart land of New Zealand’s apple capital – Hawkes Bay.
